Desktop Virtualization

Last months issue of The Hoot, we explored the possibilities of Virtualization, now lets look at reality. If your business is still using that five year old exchange server that you forget to back up every day, the one in the back closet with all the other stuff piled on top of it, thats the one. Now, how would you like to be worry free of those backups and have an Up Time of 99.9%? Over 3 million businesses today are using Virtualization for their business. If you have worked in any corporate environment, most likely you were using a Microsoft Exchange powered e-mail solution. That technology is used in the vast majority of businesses today, and many of these servers are administered and maintained by the company IT department. With Kotori Technologies and Our IT Department, Hosted Exchange is an option for these companies that want to have the power of an Exchange server but dont want to pay for an IT Tech or a full server license and buy the appropriate hardware and deal with the maintenance. Much like a web hosting solution where a company bundles many customers on a single web server, Hosted Exchange is a cost-effective option for business today. With the Virtual hosted Exchange service we bundle many customer mailboxes on a single Exchange server for a low monthly fee. The list goes on and on for the benefits of going Virtual. We at Kotori Technologies are a Microsoft Direct Partner, so you can contact us for your IT needs. If going Virtual is right for you, dont waste another day with your head in the Cloud; be in The Cloud.

What is the Cloud?

You may or may not have heard of THE CLOUD. What is it? Where did it come from and will it rain on me? Well I can answer all of these questions for you. The cloud is not so much of a WHAT but many whats. The term Cloud can consist of anything like online applications, web applications, and custom hosted applications. For example, your website is in the Cloud. Your desktop is not. If you use any sort of online applications like Gmail, Google Apps, or Facebook these are all applications that sit on the Cloud. Applications you say? I thought they were just websites? Well welcome to the confusion of the Cloud. The Cloud is the internet. Many content developers are trying to figure out ways they can get content to the user without any middle man. Think of it like the music business when the iPod came out. Before you used to go to the record store and buy your CDs. Now you can go to someone like Apple and get your music. It is just a new form of distribution.
Many of the IT companies are trying to figure out how they fit into the Cloud. This is no different in any transition in technology. As technologies change, so does the delivery method. So whats the good and bad? Well you are going to have to find that one out on your own. I will say this about the Cloud. The more dependent you or your company becomes on the Cloud then the better or faster your internet connection will need to be.
Oh wait I almost forgot about the last question. Will the Cloud rain on me? The answer is it depends! Here is why. Do your research. In the Cloud, if your internet connection goes out you usually loose access to your application. Most of the time, folks dont know where their data sits. Is this important to you to know where your data is? If not, then go check the Cloud out. If so, then ask your Cloud vendor.
What is Cloud Computing?

Everyone is confused right now, What is A Cloud Computer?, and Where is this Cloud? Why in a Cloud? Whats up with the Cloud? Hey, Hey you, get off of my Cloud! Well Cloud is just another name for the Internet. Period. We all know what that is right? Well thats all it is, except its your own special Internet, your special Cloud, used only for you.
Most people dont care where the information is coming from as long as its coming. No down time, No server issues, No storage issues. Just be there when I need you. For you the Business owner this Cloud is the diamond in the rough of your checkbook. No more spending thousands of dollars on servers as your business grows or the tens of thousands on storage as you need and the regulations kept on you by government entities to keep your data safe. Heres The Cloud.
You as the user might not even know, when at work, the files you use or the programs you run every day, yes they are right there on your workstation, but they are stored somewhere. Right now that somewhere is in a back room full of all kinds of cool looking computers and switches and stuff that looks like NASA used yesterday. The owner of the company or the corporation you work for has spent thousands and thousands of dollars in that room so work can keep going on.
The Cloud now eliminates all the mess in the back room and all your files and programs that you use are now in your own little Internet (Cloud) only used and accessed by you. So no more big closets full of switches, no more servers off line and cannot get things done today, no more worry of losing critical information that has been forgotten to be backed up. Wheres all your info? Its in the Clouds. So the next time conversations come up about Cloud Computing, youll know your heads not in the Clouds, your information is.
It's In The Cloud

How many times have you been asked where your office is? How would you like to answer them Its in the Cloud? I know you are probably thinking, what is she talking about, but you will understand soon enough. Cloud computing got its name as a metaphor for the Internet. The internet is typically represented in a network diagram as a cloud. The cloud represents everything that makes the network work. But cloud computing is more than just the internet. It allows users to access applications that actually reside at a location other than his computer, server, or other Internet-connected device. The thing about cloud computing is that another company hosts your applications so that you dont have to bear the burden of the costs of servers and software updates. It is ideally convenient for remote workers who can log into servers and use applications from wherever they want. For example, you own a small business with a few employees. You dont really need an office space for clients to visit. You are constantly on the go, and have several field employees who never need to go into the office. But you all need to access the same documents and software applications. You are probably thinking you need to go out and buy a server, software applications with enough licenses for all computers, and rent office space to store the server. Dont waste the money!!! You can now have a virtual server in the cloud. All employees will be able to access the same documents. You and your office personnel and accountant can use QuickBooks in the cloud. You and your field employees can all access the software applications from the cloud. You can save money and still be productive. And dont worry; it is very secure so that no one can hack into your financial software. And it is in the cloud, so no worries about a backup system. Kotori Technologies is launching a new line of products in the cloud. Just give us a call at 843-553-8800 and ask about Optix Virtual Office.
