Microsoft Edge vs Internet Explorer: What You Need to Know
Introduction
Hey guys! Welcome to another week of When You Need 'Em, Ask Neadom.
This week we're gonna talk about Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.
Is Internet Explorer still usable? I'm not really sure. Stay tuned, guys. We'll see you all soon.
Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer
Hey guys, I'm Neadom Tucker, owner of Kotori Technologies, and today like I said we're gonna talk about Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Edge is a browser application that got shipped with Windows 10. It is replacing Internet Explorer. The reason why Microsoft made the change is Internet Explorer was from the Windows 95 era. It was a browser that was installed and has been riddled with vulnerabilities from hackers and things like that. So Microsoft rewrote the code entirely and when Windows 10 came out, they introduced Microsoft Edge.
Features of Microsoft Edge
Edge gives you a lot of features that you would typically see in Chrome or Firefox. The browser is a lot faster and works more efficiently. It also has integrated features into Windows 10. You can search directly from Cortana, the voice assistant in Windows 10, and it will open Edge automatically.
Other features include thumbnail previews over hidden tabs, allowing you to quickly navigate between them.
Why Internet Explorer is Still Around
Some legacy software applications still only work with Internet Explorer. For example, older DVR systems may require plugins like Java or ActiveX that are only supported by Internet Explorer. That's why Internet Explorer is still installed on Windows 10 machines—for legacy use.
Which Browser Should You Use?
You should try to use Microsoft Edge for day-to-day work. Personally, I use Chrome more often, and sometimes Firefox, but Edge is a very fast browser and a great program.
Try not to use Internet Explorer. It is fraught with vulnerabilities and can be exploited by malicious websites. Edge offers better security overall.
Conclusion
That really sums up this week of When You Need 'Em, Ask Neadom.
