Hey guys, welcome to another week of When You Need Him, Ask Neadom. Today we're gonna talk about what to look for in a good IT partner.

Now, there's no application out there like Tinder that you could swipe left if you don't like them or swipe right if you do. It just doesn't exist.

But what we want to try to do is give you some tips on how to find the right IT partner for your business. And this kind of falls directly into any good relationship advice.

Listening

The first good advice is: make sure your IT partner listens to you and your needs. That's important.

Your needs are very important when it comes to IT. You're the business owner. You're the thought leader. You're the guy in charge of driving this ship in the right direction.

It's important that they listen and understand what you're trying to do to make sure they give you the right solutions. So listening is important.

Responsiveness

The second thing we want to take a look at is making sure that they actually—guess what—return your phone calls.

Are they being responsive when you call them? When you call them, do they call you back? If you open a ticket, are they being responsible to get back to you the same day?

Those are really important things. If you've got a problem, you’ve got to make sure they're being responsive. Say, "Hey, this is an emergency. I need you now." Are they getting back to you and being responsive to your needs?

No different—make sure you get your phone calls returned. It's really important in any relationship.

Top Priority

The third thing is we want to make sure they're making you the top priority.

This can come into a lot of different pieces. If you're not the top priority in somebody's relationship, that can lead to tension and stress.

If you call somebody and they're always like, "Oh, I'm sorry. We've got four other tickets in front of you. We've got to take care of them before we take care of you"—if that's what you're getting all the time, that's really not a good relationship.

Now don't get me wrong. In my business, that happens sometimes. We've just got a lot of things—there's only so many people. But by far, it's not standard. That's gonna happen every once in a while, just like life happens with everybody else—an emergency, somebody might have to stay late for work or something like that. I mean, life is life, guys.

But just make sure that you're the top priority. When you're in meetings, are they listening to you? Are they returning your phone calls? Are they giving you good advice when it comes to things? Make sure that your business is their number one concern.
