North Charleston, SC – October 31, 2018
The North Charleston Rotary Club Awards Elizabeth Goodman of Kotori Technologies, LLC the Rosser Thrash Community Service Award
Rosser Thrash Award
The North Charleston Rotary established this service award only a few years ago to honor the late Rosser Thrash. He was a well-respected local businessman and community leader. He was known for his charitable contributions throughout South Carolina for over 50 years.
Thrash is best known for his genius development of the Rotary Roundball Classic. He introduced it in 1993, and it has since become a nationally revered local/invitational high school holiday basketball tournament. The event benefits communities in schools in the Charleston area.
In 1994, Rosser Thrash received recognition from the American Red Cross as The Rotarian of the Year. Today, his fellow North Charleston Club Rotarians offer this award in his honor. It is given to a member who reflects his love for community service and dedication to the local club.
Award Recipient: Elizabeth Goodman
As expected, Elizabeth Goodman received this honor. Her selfless giving to the club exemplifies the motto “Service Above Self.”
In fact, her first year of membership, she was voted Rotarian of the Year for 2014–15. Since then, her contributions have continued to exceed expectations. She led her local club in the Charleston Duck Race and restructured the club’s grant request and approval processes.
In 2016 & 2017
Furthermore, Elizabeth led the Rotary Roundball Classic volunteers. An anonymous member nominated her, and the board approved her by majority vote.
Moreover, she completed all three parts of the Rotary Leadership Institute in 2017–18. In 2018, she also received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Elizabeth serves as a director and is the upcoming President-Nominee for the North Charleston Rotary Club.
Rotary Roundball Classic
“Besides providing an exciting high school basketball tournament, the Rotary Roundball Classic is held yearly to raise money for the Scholarship Fund of the Rotary Club of North Charleston and selected charities.
Since 1962, the Rotary Club of North Charleston has awarded 264 scholarships totaling $430,000. Multiple four-year scholarships are awarded yearly to deserving local students attending colleges and universities in South Carolina.”
