Introduction: Managed services

Hey guys, thanks for joining us on When You Need em ask, Neadom.
Today we're talking about managed services—what exactly are they, and what do they mean for your company?
Make sure you stay tuned.

What Are Managed Services?

Welcome to another week of Ask Neadom.
Angel, this is like episode 3, right?
It sure is—wow, it goes by pretty quick!

So what are we talking about this week?
Our question for today is: What exactly is managed services, and how does it affect my company?

Managed services is a term IT professionals use to describe the set of services they offer to a company.
The price for managed services depends on the services offered, the size of the company, and the industry.

What’s Included in Managed Services?

We look at services like:

  • Remote support
  • On-site support
  • Vendor management
  • Software licensing (e.g., Office 365, Google Apps)
  • Patch management
  • Monitoring and maintenance
  • Proactive support

Understanding Patch Management

Patch management isn’t about clothing patches—it’s about software updates.
Manufacturers like Microsoft and Adobe release updates weekly, monthly, or even daily.
We make sure those updates get installed—typically after hours—so they don’t disrupt your workday.

Monitoring and Maintenance

We monitor your network to ensure everything is working properly.
If something happens at 4 AM, we’ll know about it and fix it before you arrive at 7 or 8.
Maintenance includes cleaning computers, checking hard drives, defragmenting—like taking your car in for an oil change.
We typically do this weekly.

Proactive Support

Proactive support means we take initiative to prevent issues before they happen.
In a managed service agreement, we get paid a flat rate—whether you call us 100 times or once a month.
So it benefits both of us if you don’t have to call—because everything is working.
It’s a win-win.

What Does Proactive Really Mean?

Proactive means applying best industry practices:

  • Keeping computers up-to-date
  • Ensuring warranties are active
  • Making sure software licenses are current and supported

For example, if you’re using QuickBooks and you’re five versions behind, you might not get support when something goes wrong.
If your QuickBooks file gets corrupted and payroll is due, it could take hours to update and get help.
With managed services, we help you avoid that downtime.

Why Managed Services Matter

Many businesses let software maintenance lapse.
That’s a business risk—and while some are okay with that, we don’t recommend it.
Managed services help you stay current, supported, and productive.
