Introduction: should I get managed services
Hey guys, today on When You Need 'Em Ask Neadom, we're gonna talk about: Is managed service right for my business?
I’ve got a couple of reasons why it may or may not be good for you. Make sure you stay tuned.
Welcome and Topic Overview
Welcome to another week of When You Need 'Em Ask Neadom.
Today we’re diving into whether managed services are right for your business.
A lot of times, I meet with clients who just aren’t ready for IT services like what we provide—and that’s okay.
Every business starts somewhere.
But if you’re starting to think, “Do I need this for my business?” or “Can I afford this?”—let’s talk about what it looks like and what we typically discuss with clients.
Operational Maturity
We often see organizations that are what we call operationally immature.
That doesn’t mean they’re not smart—it means they’re still developing their processes.
These are businesses that are technology-focused—not necessarily tech companies, but maybe an insurance firm that knows tech is key to beating the competition.
They understand that staying connected to clients and staying current depends on technology.
If that tech fails, it’s a loss of revenue.
These are ideal managed service clients.
It takes time for most companies to reach that point.
If you’re a small plumbing business with one or two employees, you’re focused on payroll and getting clients—not tech.
Managed service clients are those who have solid business processes and want to stop worrying about technology.
Business Focus
Clients who want to focus on running their business—not managing IT—are a great fit.
They don’t want to hire or manage an IT person.
We sit down with business owners—our VCIOs (virtual Chief Information Officers) do this—and have real conversations about goals for the next year, quarter, or month.
We make sure we understand what the business needs from a technology standpoint to succeed.
Maybe they need a new CRM, a new phone system, or want to integrate the two.
That’s our job—to take business requirements and find the best solutions, then guide the client through implementation.
That’s where a true technology partner and managed service provider shine.
Budgeting for IT
The third thing we look at is budgeting.
Most small businesses don’t have an IT budget.
When we ask, they say, “I just spend what’s in my account.”
That’s okay—but it’s hard to grow that way.
Without a budget, you don’t know your limits or how much you need.
You can’t plan or forecast growth.
We want clients who know their budgets and include IT in them.
With managed services, we can offer a fixed monthly cost for IT support—easy to plan for.
Summary
So, is managed service right for your business?
Here are the three key indicators:
- Operational maturity – Are you technology-focused?
- Business focus – Do you want to work on your business, not IT?
- Budgeting – Are you planning and forecasting your IT expenses?
IT budgeting can get complex—lifecycle planning, aging computers, productivity.
We help you stay current and productive.
