The Five IT Roles You Need in Your Business
Hey guys, welcome to the week of "When You Need Them, Ask Neadom" I'm Neadom Tucker, owner of Kotori Technologies, and today we're going to take a look at the five IT roles you need in your business. Stay tuned and we'll check them out.
The Five IT Roles
Welcome back! Like I said, we're going to take a look at the five IT roles you need for your business. Now, this is not what you need for every business. We're not hiring five people for your small business. We're going to take a look at what the five roles are that you need to have if you're a small business and a CEO. You know, you are also the accountant, and you are the head bottle-washer, and you're the guy in the back chopping up the meat, or you're the guy going out making sales calls or putting quotes together, putting fires out. You're doing it all. These are those hats that you have to put on as an IT person. Now we're going to take a look at these from the top down, what you would typically have.
Chief Information Officer (CIO)
The first role we want to take a look at is the CIO or Chief Information Officer. This person communicates between you and the tech geeks. Our goal as an IT company is to talk to you, figure out what your goals are, and make sure that whatever you're looking for goes towards your mission, vision, and value, and then gets you to your end goal. For example, if you're trying to grow your sales force, your CIO ensures the technology supports a mobile workforce.
Security Administrator
Next is your Security Administrator. This person ensures the security of your infrastructure, services, and everything you're running. They make sure you're not oversharing information publicly and that you're compliant with regulations like PCI, HIPAA, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Network Administrator
The Network Administrator is responsible for the flow of data—making sure the little bits of information travel securely and efficiently from one computer to another, even across the country. They understand and manage the networking portion of your infrastructure.
Server Administrator
Once we have our Network Administrator, we need a Server Administrator. This person manages the servers and workstations, ensuring they communicate effectively. They act as a liaison to your end users, ensuring secure and smooth access to resources like file servers.
Helpdesk Specialist
Last but not least is the Helpdesk Specialist or End-User Support. This is the person you interact with most—probably 80 to 90% of the time. They help your employees solve issues, fix printers, set up new users, and more. They are the frontline of your IT support.
Conclusion
That sums up another week of "When You Need Them, Ask Neadom." We covered the five IT roles you need in your organization: CIO, Security Administrator, Network Administrator, Server Administrator, and Helpdesk Specialist. Have a great week, and if you need help, reach out to us at Kotori Technologies. See you next time!
